Multiplayer Piano

Multiplayer Piano is a web-application with a collaborative 88-key keyboard and a simple chat interface. When you first enter the website the sounds can be a little chaotic, since a group of people from around the world are all playing on the same digital keyboard. In the homepage “Lobby” people and bots show off their skills on connected midi keyboards, while others meet friends in old school chat rooms. One of the highlights of the site is The Roleplay Room (see photo above) where groups invent collaborative narratives with occasional musical commentary/ambiance on the piano.

The mostly-friendly chaos, cult-popularity, and easy functionality of the site, along with its wonderfully dated design-scheme, made us nostalgic for the old web, and eager to make sounds with people we don’t know. There is around a 1-second delay between what you play and what others hear, so there is some amount of unpredictability in Multiplayer Piano collaborations (which we also like!).

We will open a room called “Átlátszó Hang” today, January 11, 2021, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, where you can meet us and play with others who are attending the digital festival! To join us, go to multiplayerpiano.com, and then select “Átlátszó Hang” in the list of rooms in the bottom left-hand corner.
